Silly season, or Christmas and New Year as it is traditionally know, is here. While we all love a party and a good time, it is important to take good care of yourself so you don’t start the new year a complete wreck.
Here are Quay Health’s Top 6 tips to make it through Christmas in one piece….
- Keep up your current health routine – Don’t lose sight of the big picture you have been working towards all year. Keep up your regular chiropractic adjustments, eat well, take your supplements, get a massage, have some acupuncture. Having your regular chiropractic adjustment will ensure you don’t finish off the year flat on the floor. Make sure you do your best to maintain your regular exercise regime, if you don’t have one get out and go for a walk. Anything is better than nothing.
- Pace yourself and make a plan – With lots of social, family and work functions on, it is important to make a plan and stick to it . Write everything down, look at your schedule and sometimes just say no. Take 5 minutes at the start of each week to look ahead and ensure you have some time out.
- Time out to Recharge– In your busy schedule make sure you allow time to Rest and Recharge… even if it’s just 20 minutes a day. If you can, make time out to put your feet up and close your eyes for a nana nap. If you can find more time go for a walk on the beach or book in massage.
- Stay Hydrated – We all love having a celebratory drink of two, but remember to stay hydrated. Have two big glasses of water or coconut water before heading out and make sure you pace yourself with a glass of water between drinks.
- Eat Well in between parties – Between the dinners out and party food and chocolate, eat whole fresh food, plenty of greens and good fats to keep you full and going. Watch your sugar intake, especially hidden sugars in drinks, sauces and pre-prepared food. And you if you eat too much don’t feel guilty just eat better tomorrow.
- Keep Perspective – If it is all getting too much take some time out and write a gratitude list. Look at everything you have to be grateful for the whole year round not just at the silly end of the year.
Most of all just have fun and enjoy the lighter things in life.
